Chungking Express by Wong Kar Wai is bomb haha had to write a paper on that and also "What Time is it There?" by Tsai for Transnational Asian Film class (which is a very ABSTRACT artistic, slow, yet contemplative film.. a little bit harder to read)

 Chungking Express has a very nice directing style..looks like an impressionistic painting! haha very interesting way he speeds up and slows down time..the film is about about human connection and the struggle for connection as well as lots of themes involving dualism (dual stories, dual Title- Chungking (noir, mystery, cop theme) and Express (food place), dual identities in characters, dual locations, dual roles, good stuff! hehe

i have not gotten a chance to update in awhile..
but there is a loot to say! about SPOP, HA/Asian Am house, new year, reflection on the summer, hopes/fears for the upcoming year, and random thoughts in general hehe

first off..new pics and long lost pics i forgot about!
each story has a lot to tell..come back cuz i still have a lot to express whoo whoo
 

HA retreat
it is interesting that there was a retreat during training! it was at a religious camp site in the mountains..and they were vegetarian!
i did not expect it at all..and i am glad we had it because i think it was very much needed with such a big staff, how we all get busy in the year, and just a chance for us to have fun, make fools of ourselves and get to know each other better

it reminded me of spop- the games, bringin it back to old school days like dodgeball, football, volleyball, kinda like a tag/capture the flag in the dark, guitar, scary stories, scaring people when they were asleep in their rooms, stayin up talking late, writing notes and each person had a lil paper bag, 10 fingers, "would you rather..drink a pint of urine or a gallon of blood?!" hah =O skits, presentations, improv, musicals, spirit stick, operation game, taboo..GOOD TIMES!

the HA staff is freakin bomb and i am pretty surprised at the spirit people have..i felt like we really did bond during training and it was nice goin out to dinner, watching bill and ted's excellent adventure! haha goin together to get decorations ready for our houses and just stayin up late gettin our houses ready for our residents! it was interesting that we played the touch game the last day and i was expecting it to be emotional like most touch games..but they played the friends themed song and lean on me reggae styles hah..they read the statements really fast and we sat in chairs.. finally it became some emotional music like i will remember you and the statements were read more slowly..

surprisingly, i got emotional.. more than some other recent touch games and it doesn't make much sense because we are just gettin to know each other..but i think i still had a lot of emotion still left in me from spop that was never really let out..it just hit me as the summer had ended, i started thinkin about the staffers and just the history of the touch game with me..how many times i have played it with awesome people..sometimes i think about my residents from last year or the people i really care about..and how i wish i could tell them at that moment how much i really did care for them..

i think it is beautiful and interesting how the touch game is like an oven/stove warming up a teapot of water.. a lot of times you go through life never really let your water boil and steam (meaning let your emotions flow out like evaporation! haha) just at that moment of the touch game all the love, emotion, heart trapped inside is finally circulating, burning, warming up warms inside and is UNLEASHED through the whistling steam and the boiling water erupting..something you thought that was never there or never got a chance to be let out..i dunno if that makes any sense..and i don't think u necessarily need the touch game to "boil your water" or you do not need it to tell someone you care..it is just an appreciative, unique and overwhelming way of letting it alllll out and flow..

and i wish people could experience the REAL way the touch game was supposed to be like..the real, touching and bonding way.. the majority of staff never did the touch game so at least they got to experience it, but i hope one day they can experience the bonding, deep, emotional aspect of it..

it was karazaay playin a game of mafia with 60 people! i was one of the mafia left but eventually lost..but seriously that was the best game of mafia in my life..even though i cannot pull off the poker mafia face for it ehhe

ME RA banquet..how i miss the staff but it was super awesome seein them at cristy and allie's 21st bday dinner at TGIF!

it was literally a trip when i visited middle earth again..
just skating through or walking through middle earth and looking around brought back so many memories or just daily life walking to class or walking back to my hall..i got so emotional goin back to Mirkwood! not even my own hall but it still just brought back memories of visiting.. seeing Yo my old supervisor- i was like crying and i don't know why..
it's not bad, not totally sad, it's just TRIPPY, deja vu, i miss him and ME and just trippy how it is all different now and just remembering the good time from before.. i just got emotional i think because sometimes a lot of it was never let out..and i just LOVE my supervisor he was there for me and i could talk to him about ANYTHING and he made an extra effort for us..i loove Aldor and Middle Earth and staff so much..it was just karazay visiting aldor again..

Phuong- my CP from my first year, fellow RA last year and now she took over my hall ALdor..it was a trip visiting my old room- now her room and just being in the building that i lived in last year..i duno what it is about it that is bittersweet..it's just karazay all the memories, history ingrained in that building and maybe sometimes i get attached to places? rooms? buildings? the halls? why!? it's so strange..maybe i am attached to the memories it holds and it's not a bad thing..it's just very nostalgic.. just lookin at the rooms and remembering who lived there before and the inside jokes and silly things we used to do..

which makes me think..that there is soo much history and memories around us! everywhere! imagine each hall and who lived in it before you, who was the RA before you, just UCI and the park, and the buildings..it's just an amazing thought..so many people have left their mark, were in your place and spot and know what it feels like to be in your position and maybe you are in someone else's footsteps? 

and maybe..just maybe..you are making freakin history little by little and don't even know it! =)

WE LOVE FOOD OF ALL KINDS! we are pretty tight because our house is the closest to the ARC so therefore we will hopefully be healthy and in shape! haha we enjoy skateboarding, hold em, football, volleyball, beach, hangin out, laughing, talking about our lives/culture and learning from each other.. there are more good times to come, this is just the beginning, we have much to learn from each other, and it's gonna be an awesome year!
we are here for each other as friends and are here to develop our interest, passion, awareness, knowledge, community centered around Asian American culture/identity/history,etc!

it's been tight hangin out in the livign room, cooking together, we got out to eat a lot-Pho, Sushi, Thai Spice, Tofu House, you name it! batting cages, mafia, games- they knew the snaps game and everything! there's a new game called enter the club through left door or right dooor..took me awhile but i figured it out and it is tiiiight ahha

i was super surprised how they are so down to hang out and do things together! of course not the entire house can chill..but overall..majority hang out together! it;s reaally cool!  they are very friendly and open to talk about anything!  HA is a different experience, but i am very surprised and lucky with some bomb residents..it is very interesting learning about different cultures..i still don't know how to cook and i still need help..i am starting to get adjusted to using the shuttle..and i really like it! it's better than driving and dont have to worry about parking..it's just hard at times catchign it at the right time

nancy, dyo, cha decided to make HOME MADE spaghetti and homemade pizza for the whole house! HOW NICE! it was an awesome homestyle nice dinner together!
